First Issue: Elder Abuse: Prevention Through Awareness
Newsletter Details:
Elder abuse typically refers to the hurting, exploitation, or mistreatment of a senior or older person by someone that person depends on for care. Abuse can be subtle, without any visible marks, or it can involve bruises and broken bones. Unfortunately, cases are not often identified or reported, with less than 2% of all cases reported by physicians.1 Awareness about elder abuse can help to increase detection of such abuse and lead to a reduced occurrence. The overarching goal of this newsletter is to provide information and education to help health care professionals recognize elder abuse and, ultimately, help reduce its occurrence among patients.
